The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has renewed its Geographic Targeting Order (GTO) in Minnesota, aiming to combat widespread fraud and safeguard U.S. taxpayers. This action addresses extensive schemes that have fraudulently diverted state and Federal dollars intended for vulnerable populations, including those lacking housing, experiencing food insecurity, or with disabilities.

These fraudulent activities have potentially cost the state of Minnesota billions of dollars, with a significant portion of these funds reportedly laundered overseas. The renewed GTO is designed to enhance law enforcement's ability to identify when the proceeds of such fraud are transferred internationally.

By enabling quicker detection, the order facilitates swift action to hold fraudsters accountable and recover the misappropriated taxpayer dollars.
