The FBI Portland Field Office recently hosted its 4th Annual Community Awards Ceremony on May 21, 2026, recognizing several community leaders and organizations from across Oregon for their vital partnerships in upholding the Constitution and protecting the American people.
Special Agent in Charge Doug Olson emphasized the importance of these collaborations, saying, “We at the FBI recognize that our community is strongest when we are connected and engaged. A safer community is not only measured by statistics — it’s measured by trust, compassion, opportunity, and people looking out for one another." The ceremony honored those who work closely with FBI personnel to achieve their shared mission.
Among the 2026 awardees, The Children’s Center of Clackamas County received the Director’s Community Leadership Award for its work supporting children experiencing abuse and neglect. Assistant United States Attorney Scott Kerin was honored with the Exemplary Service Award for his leadership in the Fentanyl Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force’s national initiative targeting transnational crime groups.
Chief Jorge Tro of Canby was presented with the FBI National Academy Associates Award for nearly three decades of dedicated service and fostering community trust. Laura Hofer, a culinary instructor at South Salem High School, earned the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association Award for her lasting impact on students and the community through education and leadership.
Multiple recipients received the Local Community Partner Award, including a collective team from the District of Oregon United States Attorney’s Office, Portland Police Bureau, and Medford Police Department for their efforts in a complex child trafficking investigation. Safety Compass was also recognized for its comprehensive support for human trafficking victims statewide. The Law Enforcement Leadership Award went to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, Department of Community Justice, and Oregon Youth Authority for preventing a planned mass shooting and explosive attack, and to Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley for his proactive response to drug overdose deaths.
