Cuban-Swiss artist Yilian Cañizares made her U.S. tour debut at the Library of Congress on April 9, 2026, performing music from her 2026 album “Vitamin Y” with her trio. Her performance, supported by the Revada Foundation of the Logan Foundation, featured Childo Tomas on guitar and Roberto Vizcaíno Jr. on percussion, marking a significant stop on her first U.S. tour.

Before her evening concert, the Music Division honored Cañizares with a display of Cuban composers' manuscripts, including works by her close friend and collaborator, Maestro Chucho Valdés. A unique moment unfolded when Cañizares and percussionist Roberto Vizcaíno Jr. called Valdés directly upon seeing the score for his recent work, “La Creación,” highlighting the living connection between artists and the Library's collections.

The display also featured works by influential women composers such as Nina Simone, Amy Beach, Florence Price, Clara Schumann, and Tania León, reflecting Cañizares' own diverse background. Following the viewing, Cañizares engaged in a candid discussion about her artistic journey, her transition from classical music, and the varied influences on her creative work.
