The U.S. Census Bureau is celebrating the nation's manufacturing sector in the lead up to Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 2, highlighting a range of manufacturing statistics and data resources.

The bureau's Stats for Stories article includes America Counts stories, interactive data tools and data visualizations, alongside related content marking the 15th annual Manufacturing Day and a history of American manufacturing in Census data.

The Census Bureau also announced the passing of former director Vincent Barabba, who had just celebrated his 92nd birthday earlier this month. Barabba was the only director of the Census Bureau to be appointed by two different presidents, serving two separate tours as official director from 1973-1976 and 1979-1981.

On Wednesday, the bureau will present a Quarterly Workforce Indicator-based framework for monitoring labor market conditions. The session follows the Bureau of Labor Statistics' transition of state-level Job Openings and Labor Turnover data from monthly to annual releases, creating a need for alternative indicators to support timely state labor market monitoring.

Three economic indicators are scheduled: the Advance Economic Indicators Report for international trade, retail and wholesale on September 30; Construction Spending for August 2026 on October 1; and the Full Report on Manufacturers' Shipments, Inventories and Orders for August 2026 on October 2.

The bureau also noted that, according to 2019-2024 combined data from its Survey of Income and Program Participation, full-time workers ages 25 to 64 with a nondegree credential reported 16.4% higher annual median earnings than those without one.
