Firefighter/Paramedic Steven S. Lepselter of the Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services died on April 5, 2026, after suffering a medical emergency at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Lepselter, 54, was preparing to end a fire watch when he became unresponsive. Deputies and fire rescue personnel found him on the ground and transported him to a local medical center, where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

A career firefighter with 19 years of service, Lepselter's death marks the 27th firefighter fatality reported in 2026.
