Prime Food Processing LLC has issued a safety warning and is voluntarily recalling 69 cases of "Dried Herring Fish" due to inadequate evisceration, which violates New York State Agriculture and Markets regulations and poses a risk of botulism poisoning. The uneviscerated fish, identified as Item #AF4110 with Lot Code 26020 and an expiration date of 06.12.28, was distributed to Asian grocery stores across multiple states.
The sale of uneviscerated fish is prohibited because Clostridium botulinum spores are more concentrated in the viscera. Botulism symptoms include dizziness, blurred or double vision, trouble speaking or swallowing, difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, abdominal distension, and constipation, requiring immediate medical attention.
The recalled product, packaged in clear plastic with blue trim and weighing 7 oz (198 g), was distributed in Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Utah. The issue was discovered during routine testing by the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets, tracing the problem to an imported product manufactured in Vietnam. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date.
