Former Tomball ISD Officer Charged in Nearly $1M Wire Fraud Scheme

A former financial officer for Tomball Independent School District has been charged with wire fraud, accused of stealing nearly $1 million from the district. Kristi Williams, 50, a Tomball resident, allegedly misappropriated approximately $996,174 while managing property tax administration.

Williams, who oversaw local property tax collection from January 2018 to November 2023, is accused of reversing cash payments in specialized software. These funds, intended for Tomball ISD's bank accounts after reaching thresholds of $15,000 or $20,000 per batch, were allegedly kept for her personal use.

Her initial court appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard W. Bennett is scheduled for July 13 at 10 a.m. If convicted, Williams faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. The FBI conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney John Lewis prosecuting the case.
