Prichard police officer Emmanuel Naman Dotch, II, has been arrested on federal charges including civil rights violations, bribery, evidence tampering, and extortion, stemming from his alleged actions as a law enforcement officer.
Court documents detail allegations that Dotch covered up crimes and concealed evidence for violent individuals to help them avoid prosecution. He is also accused of conspiring with other Prichard Police Department (PPD) officers to conduct unlawful traffic stops and detentions, thereby depriving victims of their constitutional rights.
Furthermore, the criminal complaint alleges Dotch extorted individuals for bribes in exchange for their release from arrest. He also reportedly agreed to accept corrupt payments for illegal acts, including transporting bulk marijuana, all while acting under the color of law.
U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama thanked the Alabama Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) and partner agencies for their "outstanding collaboration and coordination." He emphasized the commitment to "protecting the community and holding criminals accountable – no matter who they may be." The public is encouraged to provide relevant information to the FBI.
