CAIR is reporting that its Ohio chapter has called for local, state and federal law enforcement to investigate the vandalism and burglary of the Westwood Islamic Community Center in Cincinnati as a possible hate crime. CAIR-Ohio said hateful messages, including the word "Die," were left behind at the mosque, which also sustained extensive property damage. Khalid Turaani, CAIR-Ohio executive director, stated that the disturbing act may have been motivated by bias and urged authorities to hold those responsible accountable.
Separately, CAIR-Florida condemned death threats targeting Dr. Nizam Razack, a Muslim congressional candidate for Florida's 11th Congressional District, who stated he has been subjected to threats and intimidation because of his faith during his campaign. Hiba Rahim, CAIR-Florida executive director, said death threats are criminal acts that undermine the right of all Americans to participate in the political process.
The national organization noted it has documented 17 incidents targeting Islamic places of worship in May, June and July, representing a 183 percent increase over the same period last year. CAIR also condemned anti-Muslim rhetoric at a Mooresville, N.C., Board of Commissioners meeting regarding a proposed mosque. Its latest civil rights report documented 8,683 anti-Muslim bias complaints in 2025, the highest number recorded since 1996. CAIR offers a "Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety" booklet for religious facilities.
Internationally, CAIR called for the immediate release and independent medical evaluation of Dr. Abu Safiya, a detained Gaza hospital director, stating he has been subjected to torture in Israeli captivity since December 2024.
CAIR-California's legislative and government affairs director, Oussama Mokeddem, stated that the University of California's opposition to a bill seeking transparency in campus time, place and manner policies could suppress political expression, particularly advocacy for Palestinian rights and against the ongoing situation in Gaza.
