The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has announced a series of upcoming events and important policy discussions, highlighted by the Midwest's largest outdoor expo and a crucial meeting regarding future hunting seasons.
The Missouri River Outdoor Expo is scheduled for September 19-20 at Ponca State Park, offering over 100 free activities for all ages. Attendees can experience kayaking, shooting sports, mountain biking, and fishing, alongside live demonstrations and wildlife encounters. A park entry permit is required for admission to this extensive outdoor event.
Separately, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will convene on August 14 at 8 a.m. Central time at the Blair Public Library. Commissioners are set to consider recommendations for both a 2027 mountain lion hunting season and a 2027 bighorn sheep regular hunting season.
Additionally, state parks will adjust operating hours and services as the school year begins, though opportunities for fall activities like fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, and boating will remain available. Hunter education courses are also being offered, which are mandatory for individuals aged 12 to 29 ahead of the fall hunting season.
