Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that he has signed 30 new bills into law, addressing a wide array of issues across California. The legislation, comprising 17 Assembly Bills and 13 Senate Bills, covers topics from public safety and education to environmental protection and state governance.
Among the signed bills are AB 1569, which establishes a safety and training program for electric bicycles for pupils, and AB 1622, concerning electrified security fences. Education-focused legislation includes AB 2794, exempting federal GI Bill recipients from nonresident tuition, and SB 892, granting priority registration for members and former members of the Armed Forces at public postsecondary institutions.
Environmental measures include SB 575, establishing the California Sea Otter Voluntary Tax Contribution Fund, and SB 1008, providing a California Environmental Quality Act exemption for railroad grade crossing closures. Other significant bills address state contracting prompt payment (AB 2272), the Surplus Land Act exemption for Angel Stadium (AB 2512), and various aspects of elections and public safety.
