Revival Animal Health, LLC has voluntarily recalled its Breeder’s Edge® and Shelter’s Choice® Feline Milk Replacers nationwide due to inconsistent levels of essential vitamins and trace minerals. This recall, announced by the US Food and Drug Administration, addresses products found to have low levels of potassium, copper, folic acid, choline, and pyridoxine (vitamin B6).
Kittens, particularly neonates, are highly vulnerable to these deficiencies, which can lead to severe health issues such as anemia, neurological dysfunction, liver failure, kidney damage, skeletal diseases, and cardiac compromise. Due to their rapid growth, clinical signs may appear quickly, and the deficiencies can be fatal or cause permanent organ damage if not recognized promptly.
The recalled products were sold online and in retail pet stores, packaged in various sizes of stand-up resealable bags and 12 oz jars. Consumers should immediately stop feeding these milk replacers to their kittens. If kittens have consumed the products and are showing clinical signs, owners should contact their veterinarian. Revival Animal Health is investigating nine complaints of potential gastrointestinal and bone development issues, though no illnesses have been confirmed.
