The United Kingdom has expressed alarm over the stalling implementation of President Trump’s Comprehensive Peace Plan for Gaza and the deeply concerning trajectory in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, urging all parties to fulfill their commitments.
Ambassador Kate Foster, UK Chargé d’Affaires to the UN, said at the UN Security Council that eight months after the adoption of Resolution 2803, the historic opportunity for lasting peace risks being lost. Foster highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where 1.2 million people still face significant food shortages, with 90% of the population projected to remain dependent on aid.
She called on Israel to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access, including opening more crossings and streamlining approvals, while also condemning reports of Hamas obstructing humanitarian operations, such as a recent incident at a World Food Programme distribution center. Renewed momentum is also needed for security, governance, and recovery in Gaza, with Foster reiterating that Hamas must decommission its weapons and dismantle its terrorist infrastructure.
To support this, the UK joined the Team Gaza Initiative and announced over $13 million for the UN Horizon Fund, emphasizing that no permanent arrangements should entrench division or leave millions under Hamas control. The UK is appalled by recent violence in the West Bank on July 24, which killed four Palestinians and two Israelis, and condemned the mass incursion at the Haram al Sharif Temple Mount on July 23.
Foster urged the Israeli government to exercise restraint, uphold international law, and ensure accountability, noting that 104 Israeli settlements approved in four years, alongside significant funding for construction, represent a deliberate attempt to erode the possibility of a two-state solution. The path to peace requires political will from all parties to realize the comprehensive peace plan, leading to a future of peace, security, and dignity for Palestinians and Israelis.
