A Zuni man, Anthony Kaamasee, has been charged in federal court in Albuquerque for allegedly sexually abusing a minor. Kaamasee, 40, an enrolled member of the Zuni Pueblo, faces charges of aggravated sexual abuse.

Court documents indicate that between March 2013 and March 2015, Kaamasee allegedly engaged in sexual acts with a minor who had not yet reached the age of 12. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 30 years in prison. Kaamasee will remain in custody pending his trial, which has not yet been scheduled.

The case was investigated by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with assistance from the Zuni Pueblo Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Mondragon is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative to combat child sexual exploitation.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Special Agent in Charge Justin A. Garris of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office announced the charges. An indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
