The Social Security Administration said the operational status of local Social Security offices, card centers and hearing offices in Oklahoma has changed.
In a notice to recipients, the agency directed the public to check the current status of their local office, card center or hearing office before visiting.
The agency also said a visit may not be necessary, noting that much of its business can be handled online.
"Did you know that you can handle a lot of your business with us online?" the notice said.
The Social Security Administration listed a range of services available through its website, including reviewing your latest statement and earnings history, estimating retirement benefits and checking the status of an application or appeal.
People can also apply online for retirement, disability and Medicare benefits, and appeal a medical decision.
Account holders can change their address, set up or change direct deposit, print proof of benefits and print a 1099, the agency said.
Help and answers are available through the agency's FAQs, along with requests for a replacement Medicare card or a replacement Social Security card.
The agency encouraged the public to go digital and create a personal my Social Security account, which it said millions of people already use to discover their benefits.
