The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General (USPS OIG) has uncovered significant operational issues within postal delivery services in the Detroit, Michigan, area following a recent audit. The investigation focused on the Detroit Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC) and three associated delivery units.

Auditors identified problems in four of seven standard controls at the P&DC, including concerns related to safety and security, scan compliance, and scanner accountability. At the three delivery units, five of six reviewed controls showed deficiencies, highlighting issues such as delayed mail, poor property conditions, and lapses in package scanning and arrow key security.

Interim reports detailing these findings and recommendations to address the problems at the P&DC have been issued by the OIG. The audit aims to improve the efficiency and security of postal operations in the region.
