Virginia has been recognized as the nation's leader in customized workforce training for the fourth consecutive year, Governor Abigail Spanberger announced today. The Virginia Talent Accelerator Program earned the top ranking in the 22nd annual Business Facilities Rankings Report, a prominent national publication for economic development professionals. The Commonwealth also secured a spot among the top five states for its overall business climate.
Governor Spanberger highlighted the program's impact, stating, "The Virginia Talent Accelerator Program continues to distinguish the Commonwealth as a leader in workforce development and innovation." She added that investing in Virginia's workforce creates opportunities for Virginians, helps companies thrive, and reinforces the state's position as a prime location for careers and businesses.
The Virginia Talent Accelerator Program, a collaborative effort by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Virginia Community College System, provides free, customized recruitment and training services to new and expanding companies. Since its inception in 2019, the program has supported over 22,000 jobs across Virginia. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery said, "The Virginia Talent Accelerator Program has become a powerful economic development tool, helping employers build skilled teams while creating meaningful career opportunities for Virginians across the Commonwealth."
Additionally, Business Facilities recently honored InternshipsVA, a statewide initiative launched by Governor Spanberger in February, with its 2026 Economic Development Organization (EDO) award. This program connects college students with paid internships, reflecting the administration's broader commitment to developing and retaining top talent in Virginia. VEDP President and CEO Jason El Koubi affirmed that the program "delivers results" by providing tailored solutions for businesses.
Business Facilities Editorial Director Anne Cosgrove praised the Virginia Talent Accelerator Program for its "balance of traditional recruitment and training strategies with the use of technology for a customized approach."
