United Airlines announced its largest international network expansion in company history, adding 10 new cities and three new routes across Europe and Asia for 2027, alongside the debut of its new 'Born to Explore' A321XLR aircraft.
Starting as early as March 2027, the airline will introduce service to Okinawa, Japan; Toulouse, France; Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; Marseille, France; Ibiza, Spain; Valencia, Spain; Terceira, Portugal; Ljubljana, Slovenia; Olbia (Sardinia), Italy; and Catania (Sicily), Italy. Eight of these destinations will be exclusively served by United among U.S. carriers. This expansion builds on United's growth, having added 58 international destinations since 2017, now flying to over 160 international locations.
Beyond these new cities, United is enhancing its global reach with additional flights, including new daily service from Los Angeles to Osaka, Japan, and new three-times-weekly nonstop service from Washington, D.C. to Milan, Italy. Daily nonstop service from Denver to Paris will also commence, complementing existing routes. Furthermore, United plans to restart its three-times-weekly service from San Francisco to Tel Aviv, Israel, on March 28.
The new 'Born to Explore' A321XLR aircraft, which will serve some of these new routes, features United Polaris suites with privacy doors, free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, 4K OLED screens, and Economy Plus seats with extra elbow room. "The creative and strategic way we've expanded our international network since the pandemic has made all the difference," said Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines. "We offer the most flights across the Atlantic and Pacific and Newark is the best Atlantic gateway in the country."
Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances, added, "We've added flights to nearly 60 new international cities in the last decade, building a global network with the breadth and reach to set travel trends and inspire even the most discerning travelers to discover somewhere new." Tickets for the new international flights will be available for sale starting August 27, with all new routes subject to government approval.
