The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Secretary Markwayne Mullin recently marked the one-year anniversary of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law by President Donald J. Trump. This landmark legislation allocated a historic $165 billion in appropriations for DHS, significantly bolstering border security and immigration enforcement efforts.
Secretary Mullin praised the act's impact, stating, “It’s been one year since President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill. The results have been, and will continue to be, absolutely remarkable for our country.” He highlighted over $1.6 trillion in spending cuts, no new taxes on tips, social security, or overtime pay, and investments in new technology for border security.
The bill provided substantial funding, including $46.5 billion for border wall construction, with primary completion anticipated by late 2027. It also allocated $14.4 billion for removal transportation and $12 billion in state reimbursements for states opposing the previous administration’s border policies. Additionally, $4.1 billion was designated for hiring new Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel, alongside billions for new technology and surveillance.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) received funding to hire 12,000 new agents, increasing their total to 22,000. The act also secured detention capacity for an average daily population of 100,000 illegal aliens and 80,000 new ICE beds. The 287(g) program, empowering state and local law enforcement in immigration matters, was fully funded, and ICE and Border Patrol agents will receive a $10,000 bonus annually for four years.
