Governor Ned Lamont is urging Connecticut residents to support local agriculture during National Farmers’ Market Week, observed from August 2 to 8, 2026. He encourages visiting the state's more than 120 farmers’ markets and purchasing products identified by the Connecticut Grown logo.

The Governor issued a proclamation for Connecticut Farmers’ Market Week, highlighting the state's agricultural sector. "We are proud of the many farms we have in Connecticut that are growing healthy, nutritious food, connecting our state’s residents to food that is grown, raised, harvested, and prepared right here in our own neighborhoods," Governor Lamont said. He added, "I strongly encourage everyone in Connecticut to visit some of the more than 120 farmers’ markets we have in our state, where you can not only get good food to nourish your family, but you can also support local farms and the many local workers employed by these small businesses."

Connecticut boasts nearly 5,000 farms cultivating over 370,000 acres, contributing an estimated $4 billion annually to the state's economy through various products like fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy. Farmers’ markets are vital for small and medium-sized farms, including new and beginning farmers, providing crucial direct-to-consumer sales opportunities.

Connecticut Agriculture Commissioner Bryan P. Hurlburt emphasized the community aspect. "Connecticut boasts a thriving farmers’ market scene because of the farmers, market managers, and volunteers who make them possible," Commissioner Hurlburt said. "These markets keep Connecticut Grown food accessible and strengthen food security in every community." Lori Cochran-Dougall, president of the Connecticut Farmers Market Association, echoed this, saying, "Farmers’ markets are much more than a place to buy fresh produce—they’re where our communities come together."

To ensure access for all, many farmers’ markets accept food assistance benefits, including SNAP, often with doubling programs, and the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) for WIC participants and seniors. Residents can find a list of certified markets and an interactive map at ctgrown.gov/farmersmarkets, helping them support local farms and enjoy fresh, local products.
