Nebraska Game and Parks is inviting residents and nonresidents to participate in a variety of outdoor activities this summer, including applying for big game draw permits, joining community fishing events, and volunteering for kayak cleanup nights. The agency also highlights upcoming historical events and a memorial run.

Applications for draw status Nebraska deer permits are open from June 1 to June 12. Residents and nonresidents can apply online until 11:59 p.m. or in person by 5 p.m. on June 12. Additionally, the annual Tyler Vanderheiden Memorial Run, supporting mental health awareness and a trail at Smith Falls State Park, is scheduled for May 30, with options for in-person participation at Cody Park in North Platte or virtually.

For those new to fishing or looking to refresh their skills, statewide Community Fishing Events offer free loaner equipment and instructors. Volunteers are also sought for Kayak Cleanup Nights, which provide instruction and equipment to help remove trash from natural areas.

Further opportunities include living history events at Fort Atkinson on June 6-7, offering a glimpse into life 200 years ago. Chadron State Park will celebrate its 105th anniversary on June 13 with races, live music, and free paddle boat rides.
