Governor Kay Ivey announced a special primary election for Alabama State Senate Districts 25 and 26 following a favorable decision from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, which upheld the state's 2021 redistricting map. This ruling marks another victory in Alabama's ongoing redistricting challenges.

"Alabama continues winning fair and square in our redistricting battle, and I am proud to celebrate yet another victory for Alabamians and our elections. In this case, we are talking about Alabamians in State Senate Districts 25 and 26," said Governor Ivey. The decision allows the use of the Alabama-drawn State Senate map.

The special primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, with no runoff. The general election will proceed on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Major political parties must qualify by June 2, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., while independent and minor parties have until August 11, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

The May 19 Primary Election results for Districts 25 and 26 are now void. Governor Ivey remains optimistic about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in the congressional redistricting case, stating, "I can tell you this: Alabama is not tired of winning."
