MIT Technology Review is reporting that MIT alumnus Don Yansen ’63 has launched Kiwi Health, a new company focused on creating user-friendly technology for older adults. It said Yansen, an electrical engineer, developed a voice-controlled wristband designed to help seniors set reminders, make calls, send texts, share health data, and automatically alert caregivers to falls without navigating complex screens. The device uses AI to interpret commands, accounting for age-related voice changes.
The publication also highlighted several other stories. It said a fundamental flaw makes large language models (LLMs) vulnerable to attacks, allowing them to be tricked into generating harmful information. Separately, Anthropic reportedly discovered a "hidden space" within its Claude LLM where the AI processes concepts.
In other news, MIT Technology Review said a European fertility group is advocating for limits on sperm donations to prevent donor-conceived individuals from discovering hundreds of siblings. It also reported that artificial intelligence is more likely than humans to develop biases in hiring processes, not only learning stereotypes from training data but also creating new ones.
