The U.S. Department of War (DoW) has announced the signing of two significant seven-year framework agreements with General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) and Lockheed Martin. These agreements aim to substantially increase the production and accelerate the delivery of critical missile subcomponents for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) and Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) interceptor programs.
Under these new contracts, General Dynamics will lead the rapid expansion of specialized interceptor component manufacturing. Key production targets include tripling the capacity for PAC-3 MSE interceptors and quadrupling the capacity for THAAD interceptors. The agreements also involve ramping up the manufacturing of essential sub-components such as motor cases, seeker housings and midsections, and shroud deployment systems.
Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael P. Duffey said, "Today's announcement represents an example of the evolution of how we partner with industry to expand the Arsenal of Freedom, outpace emerging threats, and ensure the Warfighter never faces a fair fight." He added that the department is "cutting red tape, shortening timelines, and rapidly scaling our domestic manufacturing capacity."
While funding for these agreements is subject to annual appropriations, they provide a stable, long-term demand signal for the industry. This stability is intended to empower General Dynamics and its suppliers to make significant investments in workforce expansion, bulk material purchases, and facility upgrades, ensuring a robust supply chain for advanced air and missile defense capabilities.
