Sierra Club is reporting that it is actively fighting the Trump administration's efforts to dismantle the U.S. Forest Service. The organization said it is challenging the administration in courts and Congress, and through grassroots organizing.
It said the Trump administration is attempting to "restructure" the agency, which has already led to the loss of nearly 6,000 Forest Service employees since President Donald J Trump retook office. The Sierra Club also reported that the administration is shutting down regional offices, gutting scientific programs, and that some districts have lost all trail staff. It characterized these actions as "sabotage" and part of a "playbook" to break the agency before privatizing it.
The Sierra Club stated it has filed a lawsuit defending fired forest workers and is urging supporters to make contributions to fund its efforts to protect federal forests and public lands.
