The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is reporting that it and CAIR Action have released their 2026 August Congressional Recess Toolkit and an accompanying national advocacy webinar. It called on American Muslims, mosques and Islamic centers to mobilize and meet with members of Congress during the August recess to discuss civil rights, constitutional and foreign policy issues. The toolkit provides talking points, legislative asks and fact sheets.
CAIR welcomed the decision to pursue a hate crime charge in Vermont for an alleged bias-motivated assault targeting a Muslim woman. Corey Saylor, CAIR Research and Advocacy Director, said the incident is part of a broader pattern of rising anti-Muslim harassment and violence.
CAIR-MI condemned the distribution of antisemitic propaganda in Southfield and Berkley, Michigan. Executive Director Dawud Walid said the organization stands in solidarity with the Jewish community and all others targeted by bigoted intimidation.
CAIR also welcomed new China import bans aimed at strengthening enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Robert McCaw, CAIR Government Affairs Director, said the action holds companies accountable for profiting from the Chinese government's repression against Uyghur Muslims.
CAIR Maryland condemned the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest of a Johns Hopkins public health researcher, Dr. Ameaka, at BWI Airport. Director Zainab Chaudry said the arrest reflects the Trump administration’s escalating campaign of intimidation against immigrant communities.
CAIR-NJ condemned neo-Nazi vandalism targeting a synagogue in Lakewood, New Jersey. Public Affairs Director Naureen Akhter said the use of Nazi swastikas to intimidate worshippers is an attack on religious freedom and human dignity.
In other news, the Austin American-Statesman reported that CAIR-Austin's operations manager, Shaimaa Zayan, helped shape the language for Austin's expanded "Know Your Rights" resource for police interactions, aiming to simplify legal language for immigrants and religious minorities. WORLD reported that Robert McCaw of CAIR called a recent Massie amendment vote a "watershed moment," indicating an end to nearly unanimous congressional support for Israel. American Community Media reported a 183% rise in bias attacks on U.S. mosques. EWTN News and the Albuquerque Journal reported that CAIR supported a New Mexico priest who faced threats after backing an Islamic mosque, welcoming assault charges in the case.
