New Zealand experienced a notable surge in overseas visitor arrivals during April 2026, with a total of 288,500 visitors. This represents an increase of 21,300 compared to April 2025, according to Statistics New Zealand.
The rise was primarily driven by a significant increase in visitors from China, up by 11,100. Other substantial increases were observed from Australia (+5,500), the United States (+3,100), Japan (+1,500), Taiwan (+1,300), India (+1,200), and Malaysia (+1,000).
Conversely, the United Kingdom saw a decrease in arrivals, down by 3,300 visitors for the month. These figures highlight shifts in international travel patterns to New Zealand.
