The D.C. State Board of Education will hold its monthly public meeting on Wednesday, May 20, at 5:30 pm, inviting community members to attend and testify on important education matters. A key focus of the meeting will be a panel discussion on best practices for physical education standards, ahead of potential updates to DC's current standards.

The panel will feature experts including Michelle Carter from SHAPE America, Miriam Kenyon of District of Columbia Public Schools, Jermar "Coach" Rountree from Center City Public Charter Schools, and Brad Weiner, APE Educational Specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools. They will discuss proposed updates, standards-aligned instruction, adaptive physical education for students with disabilities, and necessary school resources for implementation. The Board aims "to hear from members of the public and a panel of experts on best practices for physical education standards."

The meeting will take place in the Old Council Chambers at the Marion S. Barry, Jr. Building, 441 4th Street NW, and will also be streamed live via the District Knowledge Network. Those wishing to testify must register before 5:30 pm on Monday, May 18. "Please note: those wishing to testify this month must do so in person; there will be no virtual attendance option available."
