The Port of Oakland maintained stable cargo activity in April, handling 184,492 TEUs (twenty-foot containers) despite a reduction in vessel calls and ongoing shifts in global shipping patterns.
Exports continued to surpass imports, with 92,687 TEUs shipped out compared to 91,805 TEUs received. This marks another month where outbound cargo slightly exceeded inbound. Overall, April's total cargo volume saw a modest 0.5 percent decrease compared to April of last year.
Bryan Brandes, Port of Oakland Maritime Director, said that April's performance shows the underlying stability of Oakland's cargo base even as global shipping networks continue adjusting to changing market conditions. He added that carriers are optimizing vessel deployments and schedules, yet Oakland remains a reliable gateway for importers, exporters, and supply chain partners.
Brandes emphasized the Port's diverse cargo mix and its crucial role as a gateway for agricultural exports and Northern California commerce. He said that this foundation continues to support cargo activity amidst evolving broader market conditions and ongoing volatility across transpacific trade markets.
