Governor Ned Lamont today addressed the inaugural meeting of the Governor’s Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 Education Funding and Accountability, emphasizing the need to modernize Connecticut's school funding formulas. This follows the recent signing of a state budget that includes an historic increase in funding for all school districts.
Lamont highlighted Connecticut's high per-pupil spending and strong school system but stressed the necessity for a comprehensive review. "We need to do more to repair the state’s outdated education funding formulas to reflect the modern-day realities of our schools and the students they serve," Governor Lamont said.
The commission is tasked with conducting thorough research, examining approaches from other states, and developing "big ideas" to ensure adequate funding and maximized results for students statewide. Governor Lamont expects "serious, actionable recommendations" from the commission by January.
