Randall McBride, 39, of Fresno, was sentenced today by Senior U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez to nine years and eight months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced the sentencing, which stems from a shooting incident earlier this year.
Court documents reveal that on January 8, 2024, McBride's vehicle was captured on surveillance video driving past a residence, with the driver firing multiple shots. The gunfire struck both the house and a vehicle parked in front, where a victim was hiding.
McBride was arrested later that month in possession of a stolen Glock handgun, loaded with a high-capacity magazine. Ballistic testing subsequently linked this handgun to the shooting at the residence. McBride is legally prohibited from possessing firearms due to numerous prior felony convictions, including six for illegal firearm possession, stalking, and burglary. He pleaded guilty on October 21, 2025.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fresno Police Department conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Veneman-Hughes prosecuting the case. This sentencing is part of "Operation Take Back America," a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at protecting communities from violent crime.
