Steven Neal has been elected President of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, the five-person body overseeing the Port of Long Beach. The board also selected Sharon L. Weissman as Vice President and Bobby Olvera Jr. as Secretary. Their one-year terms are set to commence on August 10.
Neal previously served as President from 2021 to 2022 and held two terms as Vice President. His extensive background includes representing North Long Beach on the City Council from 2010 to 2014, leading LIFE Gospel Ministries, and co-founding the Economic Policy Impact Center. He was initially appointed to the Board in 2019 and reappointed in 2025.
"It is an honor to serve as President of the Board of Harbor Commissioners and I look forward to continuing our efforts to ensure the Port of Long Beach remains a leader in trans-Pacific trade," Neal said. He emphasized the Port's role as a vital economic engine and his commitment to advancing zero-emissions goals, community outreach, and bolstering its reputation as the "Port of Choice."
The Board sets policy for the Port, which is pursuing a 2050 vision to double annual container volumes to 20 million units and become the world's first zero-emissions port through $3.3 billion in capital investments. The Port currently handles $300 billion in cargo annually, supports 2.7 million U.S. jobs, and has been named "The Best West Coast Seaport in North America" for eight consecutive years.
