It said Schmidt acknowledged "rational" fears about job displacement and a "broken future" among the class of 2026. Similar negative reactions to AI discussions have occurred at commencements at the University of Central Florida and Middle Tennessee State University.
Despite this skepticism, OpenAI continues to win court cases, raise significant funds and launch new partnerships, according to MIT Technology Review. It noted that even some unlikely figures, such as Reese Witherspoon, are urging women to embrace AI to avoid being replaced.
The publication also provided a "Deep Dive" into AI, referencing Stanford's 2026 AI Index which indicates rapid AI advancement. It highlighted its own "10 Things That Matter in AI Right Now" overview and covered the ongoing legal dispute between Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, where Musk claims he was "duped" and warns of AI's potential dangers.
Separately, MIT Technology Review reported on a new U.S. phone network for Christians, set to launch next week on T-Mobile's network. It said this service aims to block pornographic and gender-related content, taking a "nuclear approach" to online safety.
