Breaking Defense is reporting that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has signed a new memo establishing a Direct Reporting Portfolio Manager (DRPM) for autonomy. It said this move is part of a high-level effort to keep pace with adversaries’ drone programs. The new role will centralize a significant portion of unmanned systems development efforts. This includes all ground vehicles, all small air vehicles and almost all sea vehicles, placing them under a single "czar."
