San Pedro Bay Ports to Update Clean Air Action Plan Progress

The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles will provide a progress update on the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) at a public meeting on Tuesday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The meeting, held at Banning’s Landing Community Center in Wilmington, California, will cover updates on the ports’ Clean Truck Program, Clean Marine Fuels Feasibility Assessment, and workforce assessment. Proceedings will also be livestreamed. Public comments will be accepted in-person during the advisory meeting.

Updated in 2017, the CAAP is a comprehensive strategy aimed at achieving a zero-emissions future while maintaining the ports’ competitive standing. Since its original approval in 2006, port-related air pollution emissions in San Pedro Bay have seen significant reductions: 90% for diesel particulate matter, 70% for nitrogen oxides, and 98% for sulfur oxides since 2005.

The 2017 CAAP also introduced targets for reducing greenhouse gases, aiming for a 40% reduction below 1990 levels by 2030 and an 80% reduction by 2050.
