Alaska is significantly advancing its energy and resource development, highlighted by a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korean firm POSCO International Corporation and the successful conclusion of the fifth annual Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference in Anchorage. The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration on six transformative projects aimed at reshaping Alaska’s energy landscape, strengthening critical minerals supply chains, and improving regional transportation.
Governor Mike Dunleavy and POSCO International President and CEO Lee Kye-in signed the landmark agreement. Governor Dunleavy emphasized the conference's role, saying, “We started this conference five years ago to put Alaska on the map for investors and to show that while Alaska is an oil giant, we have so much more to offer the nation and our allies. By all accounts, Alaska is back on the map.”
In other state news, the Division of Public Assistance launched a new mobile-friendly Application for Services, simplifying access to multiple public assistance programs through a single online form. Additionally, Acting Attorney General Mills announced a multistate settlement with fintech companies GreenSky, LLC and GreenSky Holdings, LLC. Alaska will receive $111,714 in penalties and attorneys’ fees, with GreenSky providing up to $6 million in restitution for consumers affected by unauthorized loans. Acting Attorney General Mills said, “Alaskans deserve an accurate and transparent process when they’re making significant financial decisions, and it should absolutely never come as a surprise to a consumer that a loan has been taken out in their name.”
The state also reported that April’s statewide job count was up by 100 jobs compared to April 2025, with gains in transportation, warehousing, utilities, oil and gas, and health care. Discussions at the energy conference also touched upon the AKLNG project, with Governor Dunleavy noting, "This is Alaska's moment. It's time to build the gasline," aligning with President Donald J. Trump's vision for unlocking Alaska's resources.
