Census takers and specially trained U.S. Postal Service (USPS) workers commenced in-person visits on June 1, 2026, to households in Huntsville, Alabama, and Spartanburg, South Carolina, that had not yet responded to the 2026 Census Test. Residents in these metro areas were initially invited to respond online starting May 1.
These visits, part of the in-field enumeration (IFE) phase, aim to collect responses from approximately 154,600 housing units across both locations. This includes 81,000 units in Huntsville and 73,600 in Spartanburg.
Census takers, including postal workers, will conduct these in-person collections during the day and evening, with some visits occurring as late as 9 p.m. on weekdays and weekends. The enumeration efforts are scheduled to continue through August 31.
