Mayor Karen Bass, in her inaugural meeting as LA Metro Board Chair, has called for dedicated funding to ensure the continuation of Open Street and Slow Streets events, including CicLAvia, through March 2028.

Bass emphasized the significant role these events play in the city, stating, "As a lifelong biker and native Angeleno, I know how important open street events like CicLAvia are to our city and the L.A. region." She highlighted their ability to unite people, bolster local businesses, and reimagine public spaces.

The Mayor underscored the importance of fostering community, adding that these events are "something we must protect." She urged Metro to identify and secure the necessary funding to maintain these popular initiatives.
