The District of Columbia, under Mayor Muriel Bowser, is set to celebrate Pride Month and Caribbean American Heritage Month throughout June 2026 with a diverse array of events, cultural celebrations, and significant grant opportunities aimed at strengthening community initiatives and workforce development.

Pride Month kicked off on June 1st with the annual LGBTQIA+ Flag Raising Ceremony at the John A. Wilson Building, attended by Mayor Bowser and community leaders. The Mayor's Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs (MOLGBTQA) will host signature events including Silver Pride on June 12, Military & Veterans Pride on June 19, and Youth Pride on June 20. The 7th Annual District of Pride Showcase is scheduled for June 17 at the Lincoln Theatre, and Mayor Bowser will lead the Capital Pride Parade on June 20. MOLGBTQA also released the BlaqLGBT History Preservation Report, detailing the contributions of Black LGBTQIA+ communities in DC.

Concurrently, the Mayor’s Office of Caribbean Cultural Affairs (MOCCA) is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Caribbean American Heritage Month. Residents are invited to the 4th Annual Caribbean Cultural Concert on Friday, June 26, at Sycamore and Oak, featuring music, dance, and storytelling to honor the rich history and unity of the Caribbean diaspora.

Significant funding opportunities are also available, including the FY27 Community Development Grant, offering a total of $3,000,000 for 501(c)(3) organizations focusing on education, clean and safe communities, and growth. Applications are due by June 15, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET. Additionally, the Access to Jobs grant program will open applications soon, with a pre-bidder’s conference on June 9 to guide prospective applicants.

Other initiatives include the Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs (MOLA) hosting the Summer Training Enrichment Program (STEP) for Latino youth and the 3rd Annual Flavors From El Barrio, a Latino Restaurant Week from June 11-27, featuring World Cup watch parties. The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs (MOVA) will observe Women Veterans Day on June 12, and host the grand opening of the U.S. VETS Veterans Connection Hub on June 10, alongside events like "Story, Service & Career Pathways" and a Housing Resource Symposium. The All Hands-on Prevention (AHOP) Initiative continues its efforts in fire safety, offering free smoke alarms and CPR training.
