A Crownpoint couple, Urias Koll Pablo, 22, and Jamie Jaye Cook, 21, both members of the Navajo Nation, face federal charges after an alleged drunk-driving crash on February 24, 2026, killed one child and injured two others. The couple reportedly consumed alcohol throughout the day, purchased more liquor, and continued drinking while driving a borrowed pickup truck through Crownpoint, New Mexico.
Court records indicate that none of the three children in the vehicle were restrained during the incident. The crash tragically resulted in one child dying from blunt head trauma, another suffering critical injuries, and a third child also being injured. Investigators found multiple empty alcohol containers at the scene, and hospital tests showed Cook's blood alcohol level at 0.20 and Pablo's at 0.25.
Both defendants had previous arrests in 2025 related to a DUI incident, with Cook charged with child endangerment and Pablo with DUI and child endangerment. They are now federally charged with child abuse resulting in death, child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, and child abuse.
Pablo and Cook will remain in custody pending trial. If convicted of the current charges, they face a prison sentence of no less than 12 and up to 18 years. The FBI's Gallup Resident Agency, with assistance from the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations, investigated the case.
