Governor Abigail Spanberger today announced a comprehensive list of appointments to various boards and commissions across the Commonwealth of Virginia, bringing in a diverse group of Virginians to leadership roles. These appointments span critical sectors including agriculture, commerce, education, finance, health and human resources, natural and historic resources, public safety, and transportation.
"I am proud to appoint the following Virginians to boards across our Commonwealth — Virginians who will use their expertise to help all our neighbors," said Governor Abigail Spanberger. The appointments include both new members and reappointments, aiming to leverage a wide range of professional backgrounds and community experience.
Among the key appointments are Natasha Skelton to the Board of Forestry, Jinal Kothari to the Board of Housing & Community Development, and Marian Marquez to the Committee of Business Development & Marketing, Virginia Economic Development Partnership. In the health sector, Dr. Keisha Samuels was appointed to the Norfolk State University Board of Visitors, and numerous individuals were named to advisory boards for various medical professions, including acupuncture, athletic training, and physician assistants.
The Governor also appointed individuals to boards focusing on specific community needs, such as the Virginia African American Advisory Board, Virginia Asian Advisory Board, Virginia Latino Advisory Board, and Virginia LGBTQ+ Advisory Board, reflecting a commitment to diverse representation. Financial oversight bodies like the Governor’s Advisory Council on Revenue Estimates (GACRE) and the Treasury Board also saw new members.
Concluding her announcement, Governor Spanberger expressed confidence in the appointees, saying, "I have full faith that Virginia will be better off with these members of our communities taking leadership roles as we continue to make our home stronger, safer, and more affordable for every family."
