Fort Myers, Florida – Myles Andrew Strickland, 36, of Bartow, has been sentenced to 21 years and 5 months in federal prison for assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon, using and discharging a firearm during a violent crime, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Kyle Dudek issued the sentence after Strickland was found guilty by a jury on November 20, 2025.
United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the sentencing. Trial evidence revealed Strickland, a convicted felon and Polk County fugitive, was located by a U.S. Marshals Service task force in Lee County. During a subsequent foot chase, Strickland turned towards a pursuing Deputy U.S. Marshal, racked his firearm, and discharged it, as evidenced by a bullet hole in his jacket and a spent casing. He was then struck by law enforcement gunfire.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin S. Winter prosecuted the matter.
