Des Moines, Iowa – Governor Kim Reynolds today signed SF 2430 into law, a bill that standardizes the display of flags at half-staff on public buildings across Iowa. The legislation aims to ensure consistent recognition and mourning following tragedies or in honor of significant individuals.

"In the aftermath of a tragedy, lowering flags allows communities to come together in mourning and to honor those who have made a great impact on our state or nation," said Gov. Reynolds. She added that the changes "will ensure flags across Iowa fly at half-staff when officially ordered, acting as a symbol of respect for those whose lives and service deserve such recognition."

In addition to SF 2430, Governor Reynolds also enacted a comprehensive package of other bills. These include HF 1036 and HF 2598, which address various aspects of human trafficking prevention, victim support, and investigation. Another significant bill, SF 2187, relates to the verification of citizenship and immigration status for driver's license and nonoperator's identification card applicants.

Further legislation signed covers diverse areas such as self-storage facilities (HF 640), motor vehicle regulations including window tint (HF 766) and salvage titles (HF 777), and the confidentiality of residential addresses for foster parents (HF 2526). Public transparency was also addressed with HF 2490, concerning public meetings and records. The new laws reflect a broad legislative effort impacting various sectors of Iowa's economy and public life.
