Governor Kay Ivey has officially proclaimed August 1, 2026, as "Will Roberts Day" in Alabama, honoring the life and bravery of 15-year-old William "Will" Roberts, who passed away on July 23 after a long battle with stage 4 bone cancer. Will, son of ALEA SBI Captain Jason Roberts and Brittney Roberts, is remembered for his courage and inspiring spirit.
"Alabama is remembering Will as a brave young man whose courage inspired us all," Governor Ivey said. "I am proud to honor his life well-lived by officially proclaiming Will Roberts Day in the state of Alabama. He inspired me, and he inspired us all." Will fought osteosarcoma for over a year and a half, with his online call for help leading to experimental treatment in California, supported by widespread public donations and attention, including from the Trump Administration.
Despite his difficult journey, Will consistently found reasons to smile and encourage others, uniting many in prayer, faith, and community. His mother noted he "is finally ringing his forever cancer-free bell" upon his passing, which occurred on her birthday. Will's life serves as a testament to bravery for children battling cancer across the nation. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026.
