The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has taken action against ticket broker Elite Events and its operators, alleging they illegally circumvented ticket purchase limits for high-demand events. This action resolves allegations that the firm violated the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act by purchasing millions of dollars’ worth of tickets through unlawful tactics.
Under a proposed order, Elite Events and its executives will be required to pay $300,000 in civil penalties. Additionally, the company and its operators will be permanently banned from using such unlawful methods to bypass ticket purchase restrictions in the future.
The FTC’s allegations focused on the firm’s practice of bypassing measures designed to limit the number of tickets an individual or entity could purchase for a single event, thereby gaining an unfair advantage in the market.
