The U.S. Census Bureau has released a new report, "An Aging World: 2025," projecting that the global older adult population will nearly double by 2060. This significant demographic shift marks the first time in recorded history, between 2020 and 2025, that the proportion of the population aged 65 and older has exceeded that of the population aged 5 and younger.
The report highlights the accelerating pace of global aging, underscoring a critical trend for policymakers and researchers worldwide. This demographic change has broad implications for social services, healthcare, and economic structures.
In other releases, the Census Bureau is scheduled to publish the full data set from the 2024 Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES) on September 3. This survey offers detailed economic data, including business revenue, expenses, and assets, for various sectors and geographies. Additionally, the Business Trends and Outlook Survey (BTOS), which measures ongoing business conditions, was released on August 27, providing timely economic insights by sector, state, and metropolitan area.
The Bureau also issued a final reminder for households in the Huntsville, Alabama, and Spartanburg, South Carolina, metro areas to respond to the 2026 Census Test. Responses must be submitted online by midnight Eastern Time on August 31, 2026.
