Governor Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz are inviting the public to attend Connecticut’s annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.
The event will honor and celebrate the lives of those killed, with family members of victims participating. The names of the 161 victims with ties to Connecticut will be read aloud. The state intentionally holds its official memorial several days prior to the actual anniversary to accommodate family members and friends who may also wish to attend the World Trade Center ceremony in New York City on September 11.
Connecticut’s official memorial is situated on a peninsula at Sherwood Island State Park, offering a view of the Manhattan skyline on clear days. This location was chosen because it was where many people gathered to observe the devastation in Lower Manhattan immediately after the 2001 attacks and served as a staging area for Connecticut’s relief efforts to New York City.
