Governor Newsom Announces Key Appointments to State Boards and Departments

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced a series of key appointments to various state departments and commissions, including three Senior Labor Relations Officers for the California Department of Human Resources, a new member for the University of California Board of Regents, and several other significant roles. These appointments aim to bolster leadership across critical state functions.

Patrick J. Campion, of Folsom, Jeannette Sanders, of Sacramento, and Malayna B. Babb, of Sacramento, have all been appointed as Senior Labor Relations Officers at the California Department of Human Resources. Each will receive an annual compensation of $150,720, and their positions do not require Senate confirmation. Campion previously served as a Labor Relations Officer and a Principal Program Budget Analyst at the California Department of Finance. Sanders brings extensive experience from the Department of State Hospitals and the State Compensation Insurance Fund. Babb has a background as a Labor Relations Manager II and I at the Department of Developmental Services and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Scott Galloway, a faculty member at NYU Stern School of Business and founder of Section, has been appointed to the University of California Board of Regents. Galloway, from Gulf Stream, Florida, will serve without compensation, and his appointment requires Senate confirmation. Ruben Esparza Jr., a Battalion Chief with the City of Modesto Fire Department and former President of the Modesto City Firefighters Association, joins the California Citizens Compensation Commission, receiving $100 per diem.

Additionally, three individuals have been appointed to the California Housing Development and Finance Committee Executive Committee. Tomiquia Moss, Secretary of the California Housing and Homelessness Agency, Gustavo Velasquez, Director at the Department of Housing and Community Development, and Anthony “Tony” Sertich, Executive Director of the California Housing Finance Agency, will all serve without compensation. These appointments do not require Senate confirmation.
