The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced its second major action in sanctions modernization, removing 84 individuals and entities from its Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List).

This initiative, previously outlined by Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent in May, also improved identifying information for 22 list entries and resolved 18 duplicate entries. Removals targeted deceased individuals, defunct entities, and those sanctioned over 20 years ago lacking sufficient compliance screening information, following interagency review to protect U.S. interests.

Secretary Bessent emphasized that the modernization aims to keep U.S. sanctions targeted, effective, and aligned with national security and foreign policy priorities. "The Trump Administration is measuring the success of its sanctions in terms of effect, impact, and benefit—not just based on the number of names Treasury places on a list," he said.

Further streamlining the process, OFAC launched an online Reconsideration Portal on June 29, 2026. This portal allows sanctioned persons or their representatives to submit delisting petitions and request underlying information, enhancing transparency and efficiency in the removal process.
