Former New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer Andrew Nguyen was sentenced to 90 months in prison for his involvement in bribery, narcotics distribution, and firearms offenses.
U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres imposed the sentence on June 22, 2026, after Nguyen pleaded guilty on January 29, 2026. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton highlighted Nguyen's repeated abuse of public trust, stating, "Andrew Nguyen repeatedly abused his position of public trust by soliciting and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in bribe payments."
Clayton added that Nguyen assisted a drug trafficking organization leader by transporting kilograms of dangerous drugs, providing armed protection, and staging a fake car stop using an NYPD police car and equipment. For approximately three years, between 2020 and November 2023, Nguyen accepted over $30,000 in bribes.
He transported drugs, including about eight kilograms of cocaine, while armed with his NYPD-authorized off-duty firearm and carrying NYPD credentials and a parking placard to evade potential arrest. In addition to the prison term, Nguyen, 41, of Harriman, New York, will serve three years of supervised release. Mr. Clayton commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau for their outstanding work on the case.
